Hit-and-run leaves mentally unstable man dead near Sanand village in Ahmedabad district

A hit-and-run accident late on Tuesday night claimed the life of an unidentified, mentally unstable man in the Sanand taluka, prompting police to register a case against an unknown vehicle driver and begin a search for the accused.
A case has been lodged registered at Sanand Police Station in Ahmedabad district, the incident occurred around 8 pm on February 3 near the canal road connecting Goraj village to Mankol. The victim, estimated to be around 45 years old, was reportedly wandering along the road when an unidentified vehicle, allegedly struck him.
The impact caused severe head injuries, police said. After the incident the driver fled the scene without stopping to provide assistance. A passer-by later spotted the injured man lying on the road and alerted emergency services. He was initially taken to Sanand Government Hospital in a 108 ambulance and later referred to Sola Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad for advanced treatment.
Despite medical efforts, the man succumbed to his injuries during treatment, police said.
The complaint was lodged by Prabhatji Manaji Jaate-Thakor (67), a farmer and resident of Goraj village, who stated that the deceased was known locally as a mentally unstable person who frequently wandered on village roads. Villagers made enquiries in Goraj and neighbouring areas to identify the man or trace his family members, but no relatives or guardians could be found.
Police later showed photographs of the deceased to local residents for identification, but his identity remains unknown.
Sanand police have registered a case of causing death by negligence and hit-and-run against an unknown driver and vehicle. Investigators are examining the spot, checking for CCTV footage from nearby roads, and questioning locals to trace the vehicle involved in the accident.
