Historysheeter Ashok Bishnoi shot trying to flee from police, has 108 cases against him including GUJCTOC

In an encounter between historysheeter Ashok Punmaram Panwar alias Bishnoi and Gujarat Police’s State Monitoring Cell (SMC), Bishnoi was shot in the leg while trying to flee from police, as he attacked the cops while making an escape.

At the time of the incident, Bishnoi was being transferred from Assam to Gandhinagar. On the stretch between Limdi and Limkheda, the accused attacked a policeman in a moving vehicle, and was shot in the leg. Bishnoi is currently under treatment at Zydus Hospital in Dahod.

Bishnoi, who was earlier believed to be a member of Bishnoi gang associated with Lawrence Bishnoi, but it was clarified that he holds no connection with the gang.

However, he has emerged that he is wanted for more than 108 crimes, and is a wanted criminal in cities such as Ahmedabad, Aslali, Vadodara, and more, including a GUCTOC (Gujarat Terrorism and Control of Organised Crime) charge against him.

​In 2023, Ashok Bishnoi was caught after a 650 km chase. 

How was Bishnoi caught again?

During a special statewide prohibition drive ahead of Christmas and the New Year,  the SMC received technical and human intelligence inputs indicating that Bishnoi, a resident of Sangdwa village in Chitalwana taluka of Rajasthan’s Jalore district, was hiding in Dispur, Guwahati, in Assam.

Acting on the information, a team comprising Police Sub-Inspectors K D Raviya and V N Jadeja was dispatched to Assam. With the assistance of the local Dispur police, Panwar and two other suspects were apprehended from Room No. 1304 of a hotel in Guwahati in the early hours of December 29. After completing legal formalities, the accused were brought to Gujarat in private vehicles.
