FLood-like situation in Banaskantha due to heavy rainfall

Ahmedabad and Banaskantha witnessed heavy rainfall on Sunday amid alerts sounded across districts in Gujarat. As per data released by Indian Meteorological Department until midnight, Suigam in Banaskantha experienced cloudburst-like conditions. In the past 24 hours, rain was recorded in 222 talukas.

Suigam taluka in Bansakantha received 16.14 inches of rain in the past 24 hours, severely disrupting normal life. Streets witnessed heavy waterlogging. In Banaskantha’s Bhabhar, 12.91 inches was recorded, Tharad saw 12.48 inches, and 12.56 inches was recorded in Vav, creating flood-like situations. Meanwhile, Diodar received 6.69 inches of rain.

Banaskantha District Collector Mihir Patel shared on X, “Considering the heavy rainfall situation in Banaskantha district, all anganwadis, schools, colleges, and educational activities will remain closed on Monday (September 8).”

Meanwhile, certain talukas of Tapi, Patan, and Valsad recorded around 4.50 inches, while Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar received about 2.5 inches of rain.

The IMD has predicted “exceptionally heavy rainfall in Banaskantha and heavy to very heavy rains with extremely heavy falls in Patan, Mehsana and Kutch” till Monday morning.
