Heavy rainfall lashes parts of Gujarat, more to follow until May 28

As unseasonal rain continues to lash Gujarat, upper air cyclonic circulation is likely to bring rain until May 28 across several districts, including Ahmedabad.
The latest prediction from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) indicates that heavy rainfall is expected in several areas of four districts — Gir Somnath, Diu, Junagadh, Porbandar, and Amreli. Alongside this, a red alert has been issued for stormy weather, with wind speeds expected to reach between 60 and 87 km/h, accompanied by heavy rain.
“Light to Moderate rain is likely at a few places in Aravalli, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Vadodara, Chhotaudepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, and
Daman, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Surendranagar, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Morbi, Dwarka, Gir Somnath, Botad, and Diu till May 28,” as per IMD’s Wednesday bulletin.
Today’s rainfall
The state witnessed rainfall in over 29 talukas till 10 am on Wednesday.
Ankleshwar saw 2.25 inches of rainfall in the early Wednesday morning, 1.5 inches in Umarpada, 1.25 inches in Hansot, 1 inch in Surat city, 0.75 inches in Bharuch, and 0.75 inches in Bardoli.
Due to the rainfall in Surat, waterlogging occurred on several main roads, including areas like Morabhagal and Dabholi, posing a challenge for commuters. Ankleshwar saw heavy rainfall with thunder and high-speed winds this morning.
Parts of Amreli, including Gadhkada, Savarkundla, Bagasara, Jafarabad, Khambha Nesdi, Nanudi, and Umariya witnessed unseasonal rain on Wednesday. While the rainfall brought temporary relief from the intense heat and humidity, it has resulted in significant agricultural losses, like widespread damage to crops such as sesame (til), bajra (millet), and onions.
In Junagadh, the highest rainfall in the state was recorded, 2.24 inches in just two hours, intensifying local flooding and affecting normal life.
