Heart related issues spikes in Gujarat 10 cases reported every hour

The number of heart-related cases in Gujarat are gradually  increasing. This year, 60,000 cases of heart-related problems have already been reported in the state. Among these, Ahmedabad has recorded the highest number. Compared to 15,247 cases from Ahmedabad last year, there has been an alarming 18% rise in patients with heart issues this year with 17,174 cases.

From January 1 to August 18 this year, Gujarat recorded 59,931 heart-related cases. During the same period last year, 51,453 cases were reported. Currently, across the state, an average of 262 cases per day and 10 cases per hour are being admitted to hospitals through the emergency service 108 due to heart problems.

Last year, Ahmedabad reported 15,247 cases during this period, which has now increased to 17,174 cases. This means, in Ahmedabad alone, an average of 75 people per day had to rely on 108 due to heart-related emergencies.

At the Civil Hospital, Asarwa (Ahmedabad), the OPD (Outpatient Department) of the cardiac hospital has already recorded 2,32,959 patients, while the IPD (Inpatient Department) has seen 31,191 patients so far this year. In comparison, during the entire previous year, the OPD had 3,63,315 patients and the IPD had 50,077 patients.

Between January and August this year, the districts with the highest number of heart-related cases are:

  • Surat – 4,957 cases (2nd place)
  • Rajkot – 3,752 cases (3rd place)
  • Bhavnagar – 3,144 cases (4th place)
  • Vadodara – 2,958 cases (5th place)
