Gunshots fired at BHU hostel gate, two students escape unhurt

Panic gripped the campus of Banaras Hindu University after unidentified bike-borne assailants opened fire at the main gate of Birla ‘A’ Hostel around 9.30 pm on Saturday, as per reports.
According to reports, BA third-year student Roshan Mishra and his associate Vishal Kumar narrowly escaped the attack. Three youths allegedly fired multiple rounds with alleged intent to kill. One bullet reportedly passed close to Roshan’s head, while another grazed near his hand. As the students ran inside the hostel premises, two more shots were allegedly fired from behind.
The accused have been reportedly identified as Piyush Kumar Tiwari, Rishabh, and Tapas, residents of Sasaram, Bihar. Piyush, who is pursuing an MA in Sanskrit at BHU and resides off-campus, has been named in the FIR.
The victims have also reportedly alleged that the attack was carried out at the behest of former expelled student Kshitij Upadhyay alias Abhishek Upadhyay.
Following the incident, angry students gathered at Birla Chauraha, staging a protest and demanding immediate arrest of the accused. Several students claimed they had earlier informed university authorities that one of the accused was allegedly carrying a firearm, but no preventive action was taken.
