Gujarat’s vehicle count hits 3.36 cr, over 45k per lakh residents
The growing inclination towards private vehicles over public transport has led to a sharp rise in the number of vehicles on the roads. With 45,437 vehicles per lakh population, Gujarat is witnessing unprecedented congestion and environmental concerns. From two-wheelers to auto-rickshaws, cars, goods vehicles and tractors.
In 2023-24, the total number of registered motor vehicles in the state was 324.91 lakh, which increased to 336.09 lakh by October 2024.
Motorcycles/scooters/mopeds: 241.55 lakh
Auto-rickshaws: 10.73 lakh
Motorcars (including Jeep): 49.12 lakh
Goods vehicles (including tempos): 15.80 lakh
Trailers: 4.14 lakh
Tractors: 11.57 lakh
To improve driving skills and reduce road accidents, automated driving test tracks were introduced in 23 RTO-ARTO offices across the state in 2023-24, with 16 offices still conducting manual driving tests.

In 2023-24, a total of 14.45 lakh driving licenses were issued in the state, while by November 2024, 9.90 lakh licenses had already been issued for 2024-25.
