Gujarat’s first round medical seat allotment delayed after AIQ round extended over NRI quota
The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) of India has extended the first round of MBBS admissions under the All India Quota (AIQ) due to concerns raised over the NRI quota. As per the revised schedule, AIQ seat allotment will now take place on August 9 instead of the earlier planned date.
Subsequently, Gujarat’s first round of MBBS and BDS admissions under the state quota will be conducted only after completion of AIQ Round 1. State officials expect Round 1 seat allotment to take place on August 9 or 10.
Meanwhile, significant developments have emerged under the Persons with Disabilities (PwD) category. Out of 77 students who applied for MBBS and related NEET-based courses under the PwD quota this year, 19 students have been declared ineligible after verification of documents and certificates.
According to admission officials:
–18 students were found ineligible under the PwD category
–4 students were deemed ineligible for medical courses altogether
–1 student remained absent during verification
The rest have been approved for admission under the PwD quota
Earlier, Gujarat had begun the choice-filling process for the first round of state quota medical and dental admissions, which is scheduled to close on August 8. Initially, the seat allotment result was expected that same night.
However, due to representations made by students and parents regarding discrepancies in the NRI quota process under AIQ, the MCC extended the registration and choice-filling deadlines to August 7, pushing the seat allotment to August 9.
Authorities have confirmed that Gujarat’s Round 1 admission results will now be declared only after AIQ seat allotment concludes, aligning the state’s process with national-level counselling outcomes.
