Gujarat Medical Education and Research Society (GMERS), Gandhinagar, has organised Gujarat’s first-ever international conference on cochlear implants, the International Cochleavista otology Workshop, IC(o)W, starting today till  July 2.

The conference is  dedicated to cochlear implant surgery that has changed the lives of millions of individuals worldwide. A cochlear implant is an electronic device implanted to improve hearing.

This event provides a platform for attendees to engage with internationally renowned experts and pioneers in the field of cochlear implantation.

In addition to informative sessions, panel discussions, and live surgeries, the programme offers activities such as temporal bone dissection and simulated electrode insertions. It combines the educational, academic, and hands-on experiences of both otology surgeons and clinical audiologists.

Dr Neeraj Suri, the course director will present all the aspects of cochlear surgery. The course instructors include Padma Shri Dr Mohan Kameshwaran from Tamil Nadu, Prof Javier Gavilan from La Paz University Hospital, Spain, Prof Arun Gadre from Danville PA, USA, Dr Shankar Medikeri from Bangalore, Dr Rajesh Vishwakarma from Ahmedabad and Dr Meenesh Juvekar from Mumbai.

What is the course about?

The course is aimed to assist CI teams to improve the outcomes of the surgery and provide a better patient experience.

The course will cover:

  • Live cochlear implant surgeries
  • Bone bridge surgery
  • Hands-on temporal bone dissection
  • Advance otology
  • Global rehabilitation practices

There will be lectures and discussions held with faculties under the course. The course will have both international and national instructors, and faculties from audiology and rehabilitation faculties.
