Gujarat witnesses over 9,000 cases of GST evasion in last four years
2,589 GST evasion cases were registered by central tax officers during April-December 2023 in Gujarat

Gujarat, often boasted as the hub of the business community, is also among the top states witnessing a staggering number of Goods and Service Tax (GST) evasion cases.
Being a significant contributor to the GST collection in the nation, Gujarat ranks second with 9,684 cases of GST evasion in the last four years. Maharashtra ranks first in GST tax evasions with 9,840 cases registered in the last four years.
Recently, in a written reply to the Lok Sabha, minister of state for finance, Pankaj Chaudhary said that a total of 14,597 cases of GST evasion have been registered by central tax officers during April-December 2023.
Out of which 2,589 were in Gujarat, Maharashtra witnessed 2,716 cases, 1,123 cases in Haryana, and 1,098 cases in West Bengal.
