Amid Diwali and New Year festivities, Gujarat’s weather took an unexpected turn as unseasonal rain and gusty winds hit parts of the state. In South Gujarat’s Valsad district, heavy downpours coupled with mini cyclone-like conditions were reported on Wednesday.

Several areas including Dharampur and Kaprada witnessed intense rainfall, while strong winds battered parts of Valsad city, damaging portions of the District Seva Sadan building. Low-lying areas were left waterlogged after the sudden spell. Villages such as Phulwadi, Zharia, Bhensdhara, Barolia, Dhamni, and Bilpudi also saw torrential rain through the day.

The unseasonal showers have raised concern among farmers, who fear damage to winter crops just as the festive season begins.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), unseasonal rain is likely to persist across parts of South Gujarat, Sabarkantha, Mahisagar, and Aravalli districts, with intensity expected to rise after October 25. Light to moderate rain may also extend to Saurashtra and Kutch regions during the same period.

Meanwhile, southern India is bracing for heavy rainfall. Between October 21 and 24, Tamil Nadu is likely to witness moderate to heavy rain accompanied by gusty winds, with similar conditions expected in Kerala, coastal Karnataka, Lakshadweep, Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, and Telangana. The IMD has also warned of thunderstorms with lightning and winds gusting at 30–40 kmph in several coastal belts over the next five days.
