Under a wide array of security protocols introduced by the Gujarat University (GU) chancellor, none made it out from the notice fliers to the ground reality. ‘ID-card checking’ and ‘sticker authorisation for vehicles’ that were mandated under strict orders, were completely overlooked.
To enact a ‘closed campus’ system, GU’s chancellor had ordered to abolish the roadside vendors on the stretch leading up from Narmad circle to KCG (Knowledge Consortium of Gujarat) on the campus road in Ahmedabad. Large iron gates were ordered to be built at various entry points for GU.
Mandatory checking of the student’s ID card at the gates was ordered. On top of that, staff, officers, and student vehicles only with an official GU sticker were mandated entry into the campus.
This decision was taken over unauthorised vehicles frequently entering the campus, becoming a threat to overall safety.
More than 25,000 stickers were also printed to implement this.
However, efforts in this direction have reportedly come to a standstill, with no progress being made at the site. Unauthorised vehicles reportedly continue to enter the premises without any obstruction, and no ID cards are reportedly checked at the gates.
To amp up the security, multiple tenders were also invited, but it yielded no results.
