Gujarat University to launch medical college hospital 5 star hotel

Ahmedabad’s Gujarat University is set to start a new hospital with an affiliated medical college, as well as a new hotel with an affiliated Hotel Management Institute.

The decision was taken during a joint meeting of the Board of Management and Executive Council on Tuesday.

300-bed hospital

A new medical college and a 300-bed hospital will be established on 25% to 35% of the land near the GMDC ground owned by the university. In-principle approval for this was granted during the meeting.

As a first step, the land will be surveyed, and necessary procedures will be followed to submit a proposal to the government for approval. After obtaining government clearance, a proposal will be submitted to the Medical Commission in the coming years for 100 seats in the college.

Five-star hotel

The proposed college will operate on the same model as NHL Medical College. Along with the hospital, a helipad will also be built to facilitate air ambulance services in the future. Furthermore, the university has decided to set up a five-star hotel on the plot near the Blind People's Association.

An Institute of Hotel Management will be launched alongside the hotel, which will manage and run hotel management courses. Additionally, it was decided to name the university’s upcoming Research Park after Vidyagauri Nilkanth.

Notably, the members of the medical faculty were absent during the meeting to discuss the proposal for the medical college.
