Gujarat University stuck over hiring for 127 administrative posts as state approval pending

Gujarat University is facing uncertainty over its ongoing recruitment process for non-teaching, administrative posts, with the state government yet to grant formal approval. More than a month has passed since applications were invited, yet the university has not issued any clarification on candidate lists, exam schedules, or the syllabus, leaving thousands of applicants perplexed.
The university had announced the recruitment drive in December and invited online applications for administrative posts across categories. However, officials are said to be proceeding cautiously, amid concerns that the government may withdraw or withhold approval, as reportedly happened during a similar recruitment exercise around 30 years ago.
Gujarat University has 294 sanctioned administrative posts, ranging from Class I to Class III. Of these, 127 posts are currently filled. The state government has issued a common circular allowing universities to initiate the process to fill the remaining 167 vacant posts.
Acting on this, Gujarat University advertised 127 posts for direct recruitment. In addition, 24 posts are to be filled through promotion, while 19 posts reserved under the PWD category have also been advertised separately. The interview process for some of these posts is still pending.
Online applications for the 127 direct recruitment posts were invited from December 29 to January 13. However, the university is yet to disclose the number of applicants per post, the examination pattern, or the syllabus, creating widespread uncertainty among candidates who applied in large numbers.
Sources said the delay is linked to the absence of explicit, written approval from the state government for the recruitment. Although a general circular was issued earlier permitting universities to begin the process, Gujarat University is reportedly wary of moving ahead without specific clearance, fearing a repeat of past controversy when recruitment to 167 posts was halted due to lack of government sanction.
As a result, the university has not advanced the recruitment process further, leaving candidates awaiting clarity on the next steps.
