In line with University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines permitting admissions twice a year, Gujarat University has announced the second phase of undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) admissions for the ongoing academic year. The process allows eligible students to enter courses directly in the second semester. Online registration will open on December 20 through the Gujarat Common Admission System (GCAS) portal.

The biannual admission system, introduced last year, is aimed at filling seats left vacant after the regular admission cycle. For the current intake, 74 colleges affiliated with Gujarat University have opted to participate, with admissions open for a total of 6,786 unfilled seats across UG and PG programmes.

Vacant seats identified after regular admission round

University officials said the second round was initiated after reviewing the outcome of the centralised online admissions process and identifying courses and colleges where seats remained vacant. Following consent from the concerned institutions, these seats have now been opened for fresh admissions beginning in the second semester.

At the undergraduate level, available seats include 86 in BSc–MSc integrated courses, 355 in BBA, 282 in BCA, 1,095 in BA, 1,722 in BCom, 25 in BRS and 2,037 in BSc programmes.

Postgraduate vacancies include 100 seats in MSc, 439 in MA, 289 in MCom, three in MLW, 155 in MSc (other streams) and 198 in MSW.

Revised semester structure for direct entrants

Students admitted directly to the second semester will follow a modified academic sequence. In the first year, they will complete Semesters 2 and 1; in the second year, Semesters 4 and 3; and in the third year, Semesters 6 and 5. Those enrolled in honours programmes will complete Semesters 8 and 7 in the fourth year.

Key dates for registration and allotment

Online registration and document verification will remain open until December 29. The first round of seat allotment is scheduled between January 1 and January 3.

Candidates wishing to participate in the second round must submit their consent between January 4 and January 6. During this window, students are required to report to the allotted college with the necessary documents and complete fee payment to confirm their admission.

The second round of seat allotment will be announced on January 7, with January 8 and 9 set as the deadline for confirming admissions in this round.

Modest uptake in first year of implementation

When the biannual admission system was introduced last year, 112 students secured admission across UG and PG courses. University officials said it remains to be seen how many students opt for admission through the second-semester entry route in the current academic year.
