Gujarat trio linked to ₹1000 cr ‘Magic win’ scam, ED reveals
ED (Enforcement Directorate) officials have uncovered a massive ₹1,000 crore online betting scam involving the website ‘Magic Win’. Investigations have revealed that the trio from Unjha, Gujarat, had connections to Pakistani betting mafias.
The Ahmedabad police had initiated an inquiry into the case, which revealed that Divyanshu Patel from Unjha had set up a server for live streaming of cricket matches. He, along with his friend Harsh Patel, was involved in live streaming matches. They also had a friend, Shubham, residing in Canada, who taught them the process of live streaming.
In connection with the financial transactions involved in this scam, ED has seized operators, angadia (money transfer agents), and bookies. It is expected that names of other operators from Gujarat and Pakistan may also emerge.
Despite Star India being granted the broadcasting rights for the T20 World Cup by the ICC, the Unjha-based Trio group and Pakistani cable operators, along with Dubai-based bookies, would broadcast matches live or even earlier than the official broadcast. This gave them an advantage in accepting illegal bets.
Under a complaint filed by Star India, the investigation began, leading to the ED probing the ‘Magic Win’ website and conducting raids in Delhi, Mumbai, and Pune. So far, ₹30 lakh has been seized from Magic win, and detailed findings regarding crores of rupees in hawala transactions have also been uncovered.
