Gujarat trainee IPS slaps Delhi constable, detained for 24 hours at police station

Gujarat’s Visavadar Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Rohit Kumar had to be present at the Lajpat Nagar Police Station for over 24 hours after allegedly slapping Delhi constable Harbhajan Singh, as per media reports.
The report also claims that after senior officials intervened, Kumar issued a written apology to the constable, following which the police allowed him to leave. When the media contacted Ravi Kumar Singh, the Deputy Commissioner of the South-East District, regarding the incident, he refused to provide details, stating that the investigation is still ongoing, but he did not deny that the incident took place. Officers from the Lajpat Nagar Police Station reportedly admitted that Kumar was detained at the station.
Kumar, a resident of Bahadurgarh in Haryana, is undergoing IPS training under the Gujarat cadre. According to the media report, on Sunday night, he was in Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar with some friends. At around 11.30 pm, as they were returning, a constable stationed at the Lajpat Nagar Police Station stopped their car.
Since the IPS officer’s friend, who was driving the car, was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, constable Harbhajan advised him not to drive. This reportedly angered Kumar, who then slapped the constable. Not only that, but Tanwar and his friends allegedly forced Harbhajan into their vehicle and took him to the Lajpat Nagar Police Station.
Another altercation took place at the police station. After physically assaulting Singh, Kumar and his friends left. The Station in-charge called Kumar and his friends back to the police station. When Kumar tried to assert his authority as an IPS officer, the senior officer at the station detained him and his friends at the police station.
