Gujarat to get 10 more medical colleges in coming years

In the coming years, 10 medical colleges will be established in Gujarat, adding to 40 existing ones in the state.

With the addition of these new colleges, the number of seats in undergraduate (UG) medical programs is expected to increase by 1,500, while postgraduate (PG) medical programs will see an increase of 1,000 seats.

This announcement was made by Gujarat Health Minister Rushikesh Patel at an event hosted by BJ Medical College in Ahmedabad, PATHCONBJ 2025.

He also highlighted the growing importance of radiology and pathology in modern diagnostics, stating, “Today, all doctors rely on pathology and radiology reports for further diagnosis, making these fields increasingly significant.”

Additionally, he noted improvements in the number of medical tests conducted across various healthcare centers in Gujarat.

Sub-Center/Urban HWC: Previously, only 7 tests were conducted; now, 12 tests are available.

Primary health centre (PHC)/Urban PHC: The number of tests has increased from 17 to 63.

Community health centre (CHC)/Urban CHC: Previously, 33 tests were conducted; now, 97 tests are performed.

Sub-District hospitals: The number of tests has risen from 33 to 111.

District hospitals: Tests have increased from 68 to 134.

Medical colleges and hospitals: Previously, 71 tests were conducted; now, 134 tests are available.
