The state government has announced the opening of new medical colleges in seven additional districts by modifying the policy for Brown Field Medical Colleges.

Gujarat’s Health Minister, Rishikesh Patel, stated that in 2016, a policy was created to upgrade district-level government hospitals and establish medical colleges attached to them in the respective districts.

As part of this policy, Brown Field Medical Colleges are already operational in five districts of the state: Banaskantha, Palanpur, Amreli, Dahod, Bharuch, and Tapi (Vyara).

Now, with the amendment to the policy, medical colleges will be established in a total of seven more districts, including Botad, Devbhumi Dwarka, Gir-Somnath, Kheda (Nadiad), Chhotaudepur, Mahisagar (Lunawada), and Dang (Ahwa).

The official notification further adds that even after setting up the Brown Field Medical Colleges, the blood bank at the hospital will be required to remain operational.

It will also be mandatory to provide free blood to all patients based on need and priority, and nearby government institutions must also be supplied with blood free of charge without any discrimination, according to the requirements.
