As International Skyscraper Day approaches on September 3, Gujarat is set to witness a huge transformation of its urban landscape with a green light to the construction of 30 new skyscrapers across its major cities, including Ahmedabad, Surat, Gandhinagar, and Vadodara.

This is expected to generate approximately ₹1,000 crore in revenue through premium Floor Space Index (FSI). Ahmedabad is slated to lead the way with 25 new skyscrapers, while Surat and Gandhinagar will each have two, and Vadodara will have one.

The approved buildings include a mix of residential, commercial, and mixed-use structures. Of these, 20 buildings would be  Residential, 7 commercial, 2 for mixed-use, and 1 would be public.

Gujarat's push for vertical growth began in earnest with new regulations introduced in 2021. These regulations allowed for taller buildings and higher FSI rates, incentivising developers to undertake larger projects.

A Special Technical Committee will oversee the feasibility and safety of these projects. Many of the new buildings are also rated as green buildings.
