Gujarat SMC nabs 2 with 1.456 kg hashish worth ₹3.64 lakh near Shaherkotda

The State Monitoring Cell (SMC) of the Gujarat Police arrested two persons and seized 1.456 kg of hashish valued at ₹3.64 lakh during a late-night operation near Shaherkotada, officials said on Thursday.
The raid was conducted between February 18 and 19 on the stretch from Hirawadi Cross Road to Memco Cross Road, opposite the Adani CNG pump near Lubi Company in Ahmedabad.
According to police, acting on specific intelligence, a team intercepted the suspects on the road and recovered the contraband from their possession.
The arrested accused have been identified as Rammurat Musai Chamar, originally from Faizabad district in Uttar Pradesh and currently residing in the Hirawadi area of Ahmedabad, and Rakesh alias Rocky Chandrakant Bhagchandani, a resident of Kubernagar in Ahmedabad.
Police said 1.456 kg of hashish was seized during the operation. In addition, two mobile phones worth ₹10,000, one vehicle valued at ₹50,000 and ₹19,240 in cash were recovered. The total value of the seized muddamal (case property) has been estimated at ₹4.43 lakh
A case has been registered at the State Monitoring Cell Police Station under Sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, which pertain to possession, trafficking and criminal conspiracy involving commercial quantities of narcotic substances.
Police have also named one wanted accused, Vijaykumar Baburam Vishwakarma, a resident of Ayodhya district in Uttar Pradesh, who is alleged to be linked to the supply chain. Efforts are underway to trace and apprehend him.
Officials said further investigation is in progress to ascertain the source of the contraband and whether the accused were part of a larger inter-state narcotics network.
