Gujarat SIR: 50,963 BLOs to cover 5.08 crore voters

The Chief Electoral Officer’s (CEO) office said that a special intensive revision (SIR) of the voter list is currently underway across Gujarat, involving extensive mapping and verification of voter details.
According to the CEO’s office, 50,963 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are actively engaged in this large-scale exercise, covering the state’s 5.08 crore registered voters. Under the ongoing process, mapping of over 2.17 crore citizens and enumeration verification for 3.90 crore households has already been completed.
Under Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Harit Shukla, the state-level team with district election officers, deputy district election officers, and assistant electoral registration officers, is continuously monitoring the progress and providing guidance to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
Describing BLOs as the “foundation stone” of this process, the CEO’s office said their duties include assisting voters in verifying names, linking family details, and helping new voters register. BLOs are visiting each assigned household up to three times to ensure comprehensive coverage.
The office lauded the dedicated efforts of BLOs, noting that their fieldwork, both through physical visits and digital tools such as mobile applications and online databases, has played a key role in achieving significant progress within days of the drive’s launch.
