Gujarat sees 29.51 lakh enrolments under Atal Pension Yojana, ranks 11th nationally

Gujarat has seen a total of 29.51 lakh enrolments under the Centre’s flagship Atal Pension Yojana (APY) since its launch in 2015, placing the state at the 11th position among all states and Union Territories in terms of total beneficiaries.
Ministry of Finance data shows more than half of Gujarat’s enrolments – 17.25 lakh (over 58.5%) – have taken place in the last five years (2021–22 to 2025–26 till October 31, 2025), indicating a sharp acceleration in recent years.
In the current financial year 2025–26 (up to October 31, 2025), the state added 2.43 lakh new subscribers. This follows 3.89 lakh enrolments in 2023–24 and 3.68 lakh in 2024–25.
Despite the steady growth, Gujarat lags significantly behind leading states such as Uttar Pradesh (1.35 crore beneficiaries), Maharashtra (80.42 lakh), Bihar (73.44 lakh), and Andhra Pradesh.
Nationally, over 8.34 crore citizens have enrolled under APY since its inception on May 9, 2015. In a notable shift towards gender inclusivity, female enrolment has risen from 38% in 2015–16 to 55% in the current year (till October 31, 2025). The scheme now has more than 4.29 crore male, 4.04 crore female, and 24,809 transgender beneficiaries.
The government-backed pension scheme targets primarily workers in the unorganised sector and the under-privileged. It is open to all Indian citizens aged 18–40 years who have a savings bank or post-office account.
Subscribers are guaranteed a fixed monthly pension (ranging from ₹1,000 to ₹5,000) after attaining the age of 60, with the first pension payouts under the scheme expected to begin from 2035.
