Gujarat saw 17,000 emergencies in 3 days of Diwali, 80% spike in road accidents compared to normal days

Gujarat reported a staggering 16,972 emergencies over the three days of Diwali, New Year, and Bhai Dooj, with a significant 17% increase compared to the average daily emergencies in 2025.
According to the data of GVK-EMRI, the emergency ambulance service, revealed that an average of 5,657 emergencies were recorded daily during the festive period, with Bhai Dooj witnessing the highest at 5,692 cases, followed by 5,874 on New Year and 5,406 on Diwali.
Road accidents accounted for 17% of the total emergencies, with 2,865 emergencies reported, marking an alarming 80% surge compared to non-festive days. Diwali saw 862 road accident emergencies, New Year 828, and Bhai Dooj 685. Ahmedabad district reported the highest number of 354 incidents, followed by Surat with 285 emergencies.
Physical assault cases were another major concern, with 1,064 incidents recorded over the three days. Ahmedabad topped the list with 232 cases, followed by Surat with 136, together accounting for nearly 35% of the state’s assault-related emergencies.
Burn injuries, often linked to firecracker mishaps, totalled 90 cases, with Ahmedabad reporting 25 and Surat 14.
Non-vehicular trauma emergencies reached 2,375, including 1,064 assault cases, 604 falls or skids, 46 electrocution emergencies, and 74 crush injuries. Other emergencies included 1,158 of breathing difficulties, 1,984 abdominal pain complaints, 887 cardiac arrests, and 447 poisoning emergencies in the state during three festive days.
