Gujarat reports over 6,800 malaria, dengue cases in a year

Gujarat has recorded more than 6,800 cases of vector-borne diseases over the past year, with malaria, dengue and chikungunya continuing to affect thousands across the state, as per official data.
A total of 2,896 cases of malaria, 3,947 cases of dengue and 235 cases of chikungunya were reported during the year. Over the last five years, around 64,500 people in Gujarat have been affected by vector-borne illnesses.
In 2025, the state reported 2,896 malaria cases, including 684 cases of malaria. Officials reportedly stated that no deaths due to malaria were recorded during the year. The number of malaria cases also declined in 2025 compared to 2024.
Chikungunya cases showed a similar downward trend. Of around 22,000 suspected cases last year, 235 were confirmed. In comparison, 702 chikungunya cases were reported in 2024.
Dengue, however, continued to account for a significant number of infections, with 3,947 cases reported in 2025. While seven dengue-related deaths were recorded in 2023 and six in 2024, no fatalities were reported due to dengue in 2025, according to the data.
