Gujarat Waqf assets' income falls from ₹20 crore to 'zero'

Amid the ongoing tensions in the nation pertaining to the new Waqf Bill, 2025, 'zero' income was recorded from Waqf properties in Gujarat for the last three years.

According to data available on the Waqf Assets Management System of India (WAMSI) website, there are 45,358 Waqf assets in Gujarat, of which 39,940 are immovable and 5,480 are movable assets.

As per the information, there has been no change in the number of Waqf properties in Gujarat in the last 15 years, between 2010-11 and 2024-25, but there has been a significant change in the income from Waqf properties.

A decade ago, the income from Waqf properties in Gujarat was ₹7.66 crore and in 2018-19, this income increased to ₹19.78 crore. Surprisingly, in the last three years, this income has fallen to zero.

As per data on the website, in 2018-2019, the total income from Waqf properties was ₹4.94 crore.

In 2020-21, the income decreased to ₹4.53 crore In 2021-22, the income further decreased to ₹3.61 crore, especially during the Covid-19 period.
