Gujarat recorded 206 domestic violence cases daily this year, Ahmedabad tops list

Gujarat has recorded more than 67,000 domestic violence cases so far this year, averaging around 206 cases per day, according to figures shared by the Abhayam helpline.
Ahmedabad leads with 33,869 cases, followed by Surat (12,414), Rajkot (11,781), Vadodara (11,308), and Bhavnagar (6,180).

Abhayam officials said the helpline has received over 1.68 lakh calls this year, 40% of which were related to domestic violence. Last year, the helpline received 2.17 lakh calls.
Data from the last five years shows Gujarat logged 8.55 lakh domestic violence cases between 2021 and 2025.

Legal experts noted that the Domestic Violence Act, 2005, covers all women living in a shared household, including those in relationships outside marriage. The law applies even to incidents that occurred before the Act came into force.
