Gujarat receives heavy rainfall following a red alert, A’bad airport waterlogged

Ahmedabad witnessed light to moderate rain in many areas, including SG Highway, Bhopal, Ghuma, and Vastrapur on July 23. However, on July 22, Ahmedabad was drenched in water with heavy rains in multiple areas of the city. People faced difficulties reaching their destinations due to excessive waterlogging in many areas, including Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.

Due to heavy rain in Ahmedabad on July 22, a huge pothole was reported on the premises of the airport, and the apron area of the terminal was waterlogged with knee-deep water.
Passengers faced a lot of trouble while entering the terminal. The runway was also drenched in water. A total of 22 flights were rescheduled due to waterlogging on the taxiway. Almost a thousand passengers faced difficulties due to waterlogging at the airport.
Saurashtra battles monsoon fury with rising casualties, evacuations
In the wake of a relentless deluge that has been battering Gujarat's Saurashtra region for six consecutive days, official reports have confirmed five additional fatalities which took the overall death toll to 98 since the onset of the monsoon season.
Out of these five deaths, three hailed from Rajkot district, while the other two were from Junagadh city. At least two more people are reportedly missing in the region.
IMD alerts several districts of the state
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for several parts of the state, indicating an impending threat of more heavy rains extending to July 25.
The IMD's Regional Director, Manorama Mohanty, emphasised the crucial nature of this warning. Areas of concern highlighted include Dwarka, Porbandar, Mahesana, Sabarkantha, and Banaskantha, each marked with an alert, albeit without a red warning.
Several other districts, including Arvalli, Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Navsari, Valsad, Junagadh and Gir Somnath are also expected to witness sporadic heavy rains.
The forecast for July 25 points to isolated heavy showers over Bhavnagar, Navsari, and Valsad.
