Pre-school operators across Gujarat went on strike in protest after the state government made registration for all pre-schools mandatory, following the adoption of the new education policy. However, pre-school operators are dissatisfied by certain conditions in the new policy.

The state government has made registration for pre-schools mandatory and established new rules for the registration process.

Multiple requests for exemptions from these rules have been made. Besides, the operators’ association even met the Education minister and were assured that changes would be made to the regulations. However, no amendments have been made so far, which has led to further disappointment among the operators.

The operators have threatened to run the pre-schools without registration if changes are not made by February 16. It is noteworthy that until now, not even 10% of pre-schools have completed the registration process.

According to Bhaskar Patel, president of the School Operators Association, due to the 15-year lease agreement for pre-schools, they are required to pay a 12% stamp duty instead of the 6% rate. Additionally, the rule mandating registration fees per class is being deemed incorrect. Patel further stated, “If no decision is made regarding pre-schools in the coming days, we will continue operating without registration.”
