Gujarat Police’s SMC busts gambling den in Dholera village, 8 arrested

The Special Monitoring Cell (SMC) of Gujarat Police raided an alleged gambling den operating in an open field near Gogla village in Dholera taluka and arrested eight persons while seizing cash, vehicles and mobile phones collectively valued at more than ₹6 lakh, police said on Tuesday.

The raid was carried out during the intervening night of May 25 and 26 in the Haluriya Pata area under the jurisdiction of Ahmedabad Rural Police. A case has been registered under Section of the Gambling Act and Section of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Police said cash amounting to ₹2.03 lakh ten mobile phones worth ₹46,500 and eight vehicles valued at ₹3.50 lakh were seized during the operation. The total value of the seized muddamal was estimated at ₹6.02 lakh.

The arrested accused were identified as Bharat Dayalbhai Rathod, a resident of Gogla village and alleged to be the main organiser of the gambling operation; Dashrath Dhanjibhai Solanki, Ramesh Ramubhai Parmar, Raju Laxmanbhai Rathod, Meghjibhai Kholabhai Parmar, Bahadurbhai Bhimabhai Kanani, Sanjay Kanjibhai Jatapara and Ghanshyambhai Naranbhai.

Police have also declared nine persons wanted in connection with the case, including alleged gambling partners Arvind Gabhrubhai Rathod, Ghanshyam alias Ghano Ramjibhai Rathod, Nanji Danubhai Kanani and Sanjay alias Seetar Pratapbhai Baraiya, all residents of Gogla village. The owners of several vehicles and mobile phones recovered from the spot are also being traced.

Further investigation is underway to ascertain the scale of the gambling network and identify other persons involved, police added.
