Recruitment on a contract basis through outsourcing is common in various central government departments. But in a controversial statement, director general of police (DGP) Vikas Sahay announced recruitment through outsourcing in the police department.

The recruited candidates will be given daily wages of ₹462 and ₹474 as per the zone.

Which police departments will outsource?

While the vacancies of Gujarat police constable and deputy superintendent of police (DySP) are filling in no time, 556 posts still await to be filled in departments including Ahmedabad city police, State Reserve Police (SRP), Gujarat Anti-Terrrorism Squad (ATS), Gujarat railway police, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) crime, Gujarat police Karai academy, and commando training centre Khalal.

The government has planned to fill these 556 vacancies for junior clerks in the police department on a contract basis. Police departments, including Ahmedabad police, the ATS, and CID crime, will witness contract-based recruitment.

A debatable decision

It is speculated that outsourcing in the police department is likely to attract major breaches of secrecy.

On the other hand, administrative operations have faced constant snags due to a lack of personnel in the department.

This has led to a debatable decision of outsourcing an 11-month contract-based recruitment in the police department.

The recruited applicants will be sent for training at the Sardar Patel Institute of Public Administration (SPIPA) and the Gujarat Police Academy, Karai, in Gandhinagar.
