Gujarat plans to build 6 sport complexes worth ₹6,000 cr towards Olympics 2036 push

As part of its plan to host the 2036 Olympic Games, Gujarat is gearing up to significantly boost its sports infrastructure. 

Marking the celebration of Olympic Day on June 23, the state government has announced the construction of six major sports complexes at an estimated cost of ₹6,000 crore.

This strategic initiative aims to strengthen Ahmedabad as a capable host city, preparing to officially bid for the 2036 Olympics.

Currently, the Sports Authority of Gujarat operates a total of 30 sports complexes, which include 24 at the district level and 6 at the taluka level. Additionally, the state has 20 sports hostels that offer residential training facilities to around 4,000 athletes.

Looking forward, the Sports Authority of Gujarat has also announced plans to build 31 new sports complexes, 13 at the district level and 18 at the taluka level 13 at the district level and 18 at the taluka level.

Moreover, new world-class sports facilities are planned at key locations including Pethapur, Karai Police Academy, GIFT City, and Manipur-Godhavi.

The Gujarat government is also planning to develop the Sardar Patel Sports Enclave in Ahmedabad’s Motera, which will house Olympic-level stadiums and infrastructure. Surrounding the sports complex, an Olympic Village and other related facilities will also be developed.
