Gujarat motorists paid over ₹16,000 cr in toll tax over three years

Motorists in Gujarat have paid more than ₹16,000 crore in toll tax over the past three years, reflecting a sharp rise in FASTag-based transactions across the state, official data shows.
As per the figures, toll collections in Gujarat stood at ₹4,794 crore in 2023, increased marginally to ₹4,919 crore in 2024, and rose sharply to ₹6,418 crore in 2025. The cumulative toll revenue over the three-year period has crossed ₹16,000 crore.
This growth has translated into a substantial rise in average daily toll payments. In 2023, Gujarat recorded toll collections of about ₹1,000 crore per day, followed by ₹13.44 crore per day in 2024 and ₹17.58 crore per day in 2025. Overall, the average daily toll collection in 2025 was around 34% higher than in 2023.
Vehicle-wise data shows that drivers of cars, jeeps and vans paid toll tax amounting to ₹724 crore in 2023. This increased to ₹744 crore in 2024 and further to ₹924 crore in 2025.
Experts noted that toll revenue growth remained relatively stable until 2024, but the significant jump recorded in 2025 points to a sharp increase in FASTag usage. They said the surge indicates growing highway traffic, improved economic activity and wider acceptance of the digital toll collection system among motorists.
The more than 30% rise in FASTag transactions in 2025 has been described as a clear indicator of economic dynamism in the state.
Meanwhile, Gujarat also recorded substantial growth in indirect tax collections. In 2024–25, the state paid ₹24,586 crore as sales tax and value-added tax (VAT) on petroleum products. This represents an increase of over 30% compared with collections in 2020–21, underlining the broader rise in fuel consumption and economic activity.
