Ministers of Gujarat themselves are avoiding the vibrant roads. As reports suggest, Gujarat’s Minister of Energy and Petrochemicals travelled to an event via train and air as roads from Ahmedabad to Junagadh were dilapidated.

A project valued at ₹7.92 crore, undertaken by Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Limited (PGVCL) to increase the capacity of existing overhead power lines and to convert them into underground power lines in Junagadh was launched by Minister Kanu Desai on October 3. He also E-inaugurated the new Sutrapada Sub Divisional office.

The energy minister personally visited Junagadh for the project launch. However, he chose to travel by train to avoid travelling on bad roads. Desai reached Junagadh early on October 3 and later travelled to Amreli by road to catch a plane to Surat.

As per reports, the roads from Ahmedabad to Junagadh have been severely damaged in the rains, causing a lot of difficulties for commuters. The poor road conditions are not limited to villages, but also extend to state and National Highways.

It is noteworthy that from road construction to pothole repairs, municipal officials, contractors, and politicians are collectively spending around ₹1,000 crore annually on new roads, resurfacing existing roads, and repairing potholes.

Currently, the Union Home Minister is also on a visit to Ahmedabad to unveil development projects worth crores of rupees in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. Earlier in September before PM Narendra Modi’s visit to Ahmedabad, the corporation had begun beautification works in full swing – patching up airport road, cleaning the pavements and planting of trees.
