The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) appointed a new chairman and vice-chairman on Tuesday. Ashok Chaudhary, Chairman of Dudhsagar Dairy, was appointed the new Chairman of GCMMF or Amul Federation, while Gordhan Dhameliya of Rajkot’s Gopal Dairy was appointed as the Vice-Chairman. Both will serve in their respective roles for the next two-and-a-half years.
A total of 18 cooperative dairies in Gujarat are members of the federation. The election is conducted through internal voting among the 18 board members.
Notably, around 11 am on Tuesday, BJP state general secretary Ratnakar and Cooperation Minister Jagdish Vishwakarma met Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and soon after, the names of the new chairman and vice-chairman were declared.
Amid ongoing disputes in several cooperative milk unions across Gujarat, Ashok Chaudhary is now set to assume charge as the new chairman of GCMMF.
GCMMF is India’s largest dairy products organisation and the apex body of the dairy cooperatives in Gujarat. It is best known as the marketing organisation behind the iconic brand Amul, which has played a crucial role in India’s White Revolution.
