Gujarat medical colleges fined ₹50,000 each for not submitting annual reports despite repeated notices from NMC

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has taken strict action against medical colleges that failed to submit their mandatory Annual Declaration Reports, imposing a fine of ₹50,000 each on 15 undergraduate (UG) and 20 postgraduate (PG) medical institutions across the country.
Despite repeated circulars issued on November 1, 14, 28, December 10, 2024, and most recently on March 28, 2025, several medical colleges did not comply with the requirement to submit comprehensive data – such as number of seats, student intake, and other academic details – on the Commission’s online portal.
Among the penalised institutions, Rajkot’s PDU Government Medical College has been fined ₹50,000 for both its UG and PG programs, while Surat’s SMIMER (Surat Municipal Institute of Medical Education and Research) has been fined for non-compliance in its PG courses.
In addition to the ₹50,000 penalty, these colleges are now required to pay ₹3.54 lakh (including GST) and must submit their pending declaration forms by May 9 for UG and May 12 for PG programs. The Commission has made it clear that failure to meet these deadlines will result in the colleges’ renewal applications for the academic year 2025–26 not being considered, effectively halting new admissions.
Furthermore, PG colleges have been subjected to an additional ₹50,000 penalty per course for not submitting data related to individual specialties.
