Gujarat man ends life due to alleged harassment by wife, her lover, in-laws

A case of abetment to suicide has been registered by the Kanbha Police, Gujarat, after a suicide note surfaced in the death of a young man working at a company in Bakrol GIDC, Ahmedabad. The note reveals that the man took the extreme step after continuous harassment by his wife, her lover, her father and brother.
The deceased, Anil Maurya, native of Kasganj district in Uttar Pradesh, was found hanging inside his room at a company premises on March 31, 2025. The police recovered a suicide note from the scene.
According to the suicide note, Anil ended his life due to relentless mental harassment by his wife Jyoti, her father, her brother, and Jyoti’s former lover Vijay.
It was mentioned that Jyoti had an ongoing relationship with Vijay even before her marriage to Anil. Despite knowing this, Jyoti’s father proceeded with arranging her marriage to Anil.
In March, Jyoti left Anil and returned to her parental home, refusing to come back. In the meantime, Anil was allegedly mentally tortured and harassed by his wife’s family and her lover, who even threatened to kill him. Unable to bear the pressure, Anil ultimately chose to take his own life.
Based on the evidence and the suicide note, Kanbha Police have registered a case against Jyoti, her father, her brother, and Vijay. Further investigation is underway.
