Amid intense preparations for the upcoming local body elections in Gujarat, a shocking incident has emerged from Valsad district. The mamlatdar of Umargam, D C Brahmankachh, allegedly died by suicide after jumping in front of a moving train. Railway police and local authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.

According to information, the incident occurred late Monday night , when the mamlatdar reportedly took the extreme step. Police teams rushed to the scene immediately after receiving information and began preliminary inquiries. The body has been taken into custody and is being sent for post-mortem examination.

At a time when the administrative machinery is deeply engaged in election-related duties, the sudden death of a senior official has raised serious questions about the circumstances leading to the incident.

Serious allegations have surfaced that the mamlatdar was under significant pressure from influential individuals to reject the nomination form of an independent candidate from the Sarigam seat.

Sources claim that there were no valid legal grounds to cancel the form, placing the officer in a difficult position. It is alleged that he was caught between following the law and complying with external pressure.

Discussions within administrative circles suggest that the mamlatdar was allegedly threatened with dismissal or being forced into voluntary retirement if he did not comply with the demands. It is suspected that rather than succumbing to pressure or taking an unjust decision, he may have chosen to take this extreme step.

Following the incident, demands for a detailed investigation have intensified. Questions are being raised about the identity of those who allegedly exerted pressure.

There are calls to examine the mamlatdar’s call records, including phone and WhatsApp communications from the last 48 hours, to uncover the truth.

As of now, police have not officially confirmed whether any suicide note has been recovered. The investigation is ongoing.
