Gujarat likely to get 15 to 17 new talukas ahead of local self-govt polls

Ahead of the upcoming local self-government elections, it was revealed that Gujarat is likely to get 15 to 17 new talukas to simplify administration and improve public convenience.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel is said to have discussed the matter during the cabinet meeting on Wednesday. According to sources, in-principle approval may be granted for the formation of these new talukas. They could also be included in the elections scheduled for January or February.
According to the government , this is to make governance more people-centric at the local level and improve the efficiency of the administrative system. With the formation of new talukas, citizens will not have to travel long distances for government-related work, saving both time and effort.
If implemented, the newly formed talukas may be included in the upcoming local self-government elections. The government views this step as an effort to fulfil the people’s long-standing demands while also implementing administrative reforms.
