Gujarat High Court

Gujarat High Court is currently grappling with a significant shortage of judges, with nearly 45% vacant positions. According to a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, the total sanctioned strength of judges in the HC is 29, while 23 positions remain unfilled.

Congress Rajya Sabha MP Shaktisinh Gohil raised the issue in the Parliament. While the central government acknowledged the shortage, it attributed the delay in filling up these positions to the high volume of cases in Gujarat’s courts and the government’s ongoing efforts to ensure speedy justice.

However, Gohil countered this claim on social media platform X, stating that the BJP-led central government has been deliberately delaying the appointment of judges despite recommendations from the Supreme Court Collegium. He argued that this delay is directly responsible for the prolonged legal proceedings faced by litigants.

Gohil further asserted that the 45% vacancy rate in the judiciary is leading to a substantial backlog of cases and overburdening the existing judges. This, in turn, is resulting in delayed justice for the people.
