Gujarat HC grants interim relief to Sachin palace in Surat, directs no coercive action till Feb 23

Gujarat High Court on Friday granted interim relief to the Palace located in Sachin, directing the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) to refrain from taking any coercive action against the historic palace structure until the next hearing on February 23.
The court issued notices to SMC to file an affidavit in response. The order comes amid efforts by members of the Sachin royal family to protect the palace, originally constructed by the erstwhile rulers of Sachin, from potential demolition.
During the hearing, senior counsel for the petitioners, including Sidi Mohammed Reza Khan and others, submitted that the royal family members have agreed to surrender a portion of their open land to the SMC. They emphasised their willingness to provide additional area or allow a slight upward shift in line to preserve the existing palace construction.
The court noted the petitioners’ stance and directed that possession of the surrendered land be taken within seven days. However, it restrained any coercive steps against the palace itself till the next date of hearing.
The SMC's counsel contended that the action taken by issuance of notice dated October 29, 2025, is pursuant to the surrendering of land by the petitioner. As per the instructions the effect has been given to the notice.
