Gujarat HC cancels 38 illegal Parul University admissions
In a hearing on Mar 21, the Gujarat High Court ordered the cancellation of 38 illegally admitted students in three constituent colleges of Parul University in Vadodara for the academic year 2022–23.
Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal and Justice Aniruddha Mayee ruled that the university has committed a grave illegality in granting admission to students despite knowing either ineligibility as candidates, or by enrolling them after the expiration of the last date for the admission.
The last date for the B Pharm course for the academic year was Jan 16, 2023.
The HC also ordered the university to refund the fees of the illegally admitted students by the respondent constituent colleges and pay ₹10 lakh in damages to each student for the loss of an academic year.
Chief Justice Agarwal confirmed the illegality in the admission process conducted by the university citing an inquiry report dated Mar 20, 2024, of the Admission Committee for Professional Courses (ACPC).
