Gujarat grapple with Tuberculosis cases, monthly 380 cases in 2025

Gujarat ranks sixth among Indian states in terms of the highest number of Tuberculosis (TB) cases recorded in a year. However, as per the Health Department numbers, there has been a significant decline of 37% in TB-related deaths and a 34% drop in new cases over the past eight years.

In 2024, Gujarat recorded 1.39 lakh TB cases. Uttar Pradesh topped the list with 6.81 lakh cases. Compared to 2015, the number of new TB registrations in Gujarat dropped by 34% and the death rate decreased by 37% in 2023.

Eight deaths daily

From January to April 2025, 45,282 new TB cases were registered, with 1,011 deaths. In just four months of 2025, a total of eight patients died of TB. In the same period of 2024–25, deaths had been recorded at 2,201.

Over 4 lakh TB cases in the three years

There has been a continuous decline in the number of TB-related deaths. To improve recovery and reduce mortality, the Central government has introduced a protocol classifying patients based on risk– high-risk and low-risk.

For high-risk TB patients, treatment is available from sub-district hospitals to medical college-affiliated hospitals. The treatment process includes assessments 15 days after starting medication and again after two months.

₹46.5 cr aid disbursed to TB patients

The Indian government offers TB patients a monthly financial aid of ₹1,000 through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). In 2024, ₹49.5 crore was transferred to the accounts of 1,19,833 TB patients in Gujarat.
