The Gujarat Finance Department has issued a new circular revising the charge allowance structure for fixed-pay Class-3 and Class-4 employees appointed through direct recruitment.

The circular, issued today, cancels earlier provisions and introduces a revised system aimed at maintaining employee motivation when handling additional responsibilities.

According to the notification, earlier resolutions issued on 20/10/2015, 28/03/2016, 31/01/2018, and 18/10/2023 had defined how fixed-pay staff were to be compensated for additional duties through charge allowance.

Although fixed-pay amounts were revised through the 2023 resolution, the charge allowance continued to be calculated on the basis of the original 2015 fixed-pay structure.

The government noted that this discrepancy was causing dissatisfaction among fixed-pay employees who were handling equal or higher-level responsibilities. After detailed consideration, the Finance Department has now approved a revised formula.

Under the new rule, fixed-pay Class-3 and Class-4 employees who are assigned additional responsibilities of the same level or a higher post will now receive an additional 5% or 10% of their current fixed remuneration as charge allowance, rather than their original pay.

The circular states that all earlier provisions regarding charge allowance for such employees stand cancelled and replaced with this updated rule. The revised allowance will take effect from today.

The notification was issued in the name of the Governor of Gujarat and signed by Dr Nisarg Joshi, Deputy Secretary, Finance Department.
