The Gujarat government has officially approved the division of Banaskantha district to improve administrative efficiency and meet long-standing public demands. A government notification issued on Thursday confirmed the creation of two separate districts Banaskantha and Vav-Tharad.
Under the new arrangement, Palanpur will remain the headquarters of Banaskantha, which will now comprise 10 talukas: Palanpur, Vadgam, Danta, Amirgarh, Deesa, Kankrej, Dhanera, Dantivada, Ogad, and Hadad (the latter two being newly formed).
The newly carved Vav-Tharad district will have its headquarters at Tharad and include 8 talukas: Vav, Tharad, Suigam, Diyodar, Bhabhar, Lakhani, Rah, and Dharnidhar.
Officials said the move will make government services more accessible to residents, saving time and effort by reducing travel distances for administrative work. The restructuring may also influence upcoming local body elections as the new talukas come into effect.
The decision is being hailed as a major step toward administrative reforms and fulfillment of a long-pending public demand in North Gujarat.
