Gujarat govt appoints Yamal Vyas as chairperson of 4th finance commission

The government of Gujarat has appointed Yamal Vyas as the chairperson of the fourth finance commission on Monday.

Vyas will resign from his roles as chief spokesperson and member of the BJP. After submitting his resignation, he will assume his new responsibilities.

This position had been vacant for the past five years, with  Bharat Gariwala previously serving as the chairperson of the third Finance Commission. Notably, this appointment may lead to the approval of pending grants worth crores for the state government.

Who is Yamal Vyas?

Chartered Accountant Vyas previously served as a full-time member of the third finance commission from 2011 to 2015. He has also twice served as a government nominee on the Central Council of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India.

He was an independent director on the boards of various government companies, including Gujarat State Financial Services, Gujarat State Seeds Corporation, and Gujarat State Investment Ltd.
