Gujarat govt announces up to 30% hike for fixed-pay staff
The new salary structure will cost the annual state exchequer more than ₹548.64 cr

Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, the government of Gujarat announced a salary hike of up to 30% for its employees in the fixed-pay category.
Minister of health and spokesperson Rushikesh Patel said today, “It has been decided to increase the existing salary of 61,560 fixed-salary employees of the state by 30% with effect from Oct 1.”
The new salary structure will cost the annual state exchequer more than ₹548.64 cr.
More than 65,000 beneficiaries
The salary hike will benefit 61,560 employees of the state government.
The monthly salary of class III employees under the grade pay scale of 4400 will increase to ₹49,600 from ₹38,090. Whereas employees under the grade pay scale of 4200 and 2800 will get a monthly salary of ₹40,800 instead of ₹31,340.
Class III employees under the grade pay of 2400, 2000, 1900, and 1800 will get a salary hike of ₹26,000 from earlier ₹19,950.
The employees under 1650, 1400, and 1300 grade pay in the class IV category will get a monthly salary of ₹21,100 from ₹16,224.
Financial aid for contractual employees
Moreover, the government will provide financial assistance of ₹14 lakh to the dependents of a contractual employee if he or she dies while on duty.
Though the move will benefit over 61,000 employees, over the years, the fixed-pay employees of the state have knocked the doors of high court and even the Supreme Court for the removal of the fixation of pay.
