Gujarat gets over ₹17,000 cr in railway budget allocation

A total of ₹2.52 lakh crore has been allocated to the railways in the Budget 2025-26. The railway budget was merged with the Union Budget in 2014.

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw held a virtual press conference on Monday and announced allocation of funds to various zones.

Gujarat was allocated ₹17,155 crore, which was 29% higher than the average railway allocation received by the state.

With the latest allocation, a total of 87 stations in Gujarat will be developed and new tracks and infrastructural facilities will be increased.

The Union Budget 2025-26, however, has once again left PM Narendra Modi’s home state Gujarat, disappointed, as the long-standing demand to shift the Western Railway headquarters to the state remains unaddressed.

Like the recently launched Namo Bharat Rapid Rail between Ahmedabad and Bhuj, 50 more Namo Bharat trains,100 Amrit Bharat Trains, and 200 Vande Bharat trains are scheduled to be launched.

Vaishnaw announced that Gujarat has witnessed the construction of 2,739 km of new railway tracks, surpassing the total railway network of Denmark. Additionally, 97% of the electrification work has been completed across 3,144 km within the state.
