Gujarat top exporting state in 2024-25

Gujarat has once again topped the list of Indian states contributing the most to the country’s exports. Among the districts, Jamnagar, a hub for petroleum products, ranked number one in exports across the country.

According to the 2024–25 analysis by the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO), Gujarat exported goods worth ₹9.83 lakh crore, accounting for 26.6% of India’s total exports. From Jamnagar, exports worth ₹3.63 lakh crore were recorded.

Exports decline but market share increases

Interestingly, while Gujarat has traditionally led in exports from conventional sectors, it is now making significant strides in new areas like spacecraft and aircraft parts, ships, technical textiles, and medical equipment.

According to FIEO’s report, Gujarat’s total exports stood at ₹11.13 lakh crore in 2023–24, but decreased to ₹9.83 lakh crore in 2024–25. This decline is attributed to falling prices of petroleum products and a drop in diamond exports due to reduced demand for lab-grown diamonds. Despite this, Gujarat’s share in the country’s overall exports remains strong.

USA tops Gujarat’s export list

There was notable growth in exports of plastic products and engineering goods from Gujarat. The state continues to dominate key foreign markets. In 2024–25, Gujarat’s exports to the United States alone totaled ₹1.54 lakh crore. Exports to the Netherlands and UAE also increased, while exports to China and Singapore saw a slight decline.

Ahmedabad leads in pharma exports

Excluding petroleum products, Ahmedabad is Gujarat’s largest export hub. Pharma exports from the state saw significant growth. In 2023–24, pharma exports from Gujarat were ₹33,242 crore, which rose to ₹39,983 crore in 2024–25.

Traditionally, Gujarat has been a leader in global exports of textiles, petro products, pharmaceuticals, and gems & jewellery. Now, the state is expanding into the export of aircraft and spacecraft parts, ships, railway engines, medical equipment, and fertilisers.

  • Exports of spacecraft and aircraft parts grew from ₹50 crore (2023–24) to ₹492 crore (2024–25)
  • Ship exports surged from ₹4,609 crore to ₹17,135 crore
  • Fresh vegetables exports in 2024–25 stood at ₹4,106 crore
  • Medical equipment exports reached ₹5,654 crore
  • Technical textiles exports totaled ₹1,150 crore.
