Gujarat FDCA Cracks Down on Fake Medicines, Seizes Suspected Counterfeit Drug Stock

The Gujarat Food and Drug Control Administration (FDCA) has launched a major crackdown on counterfeit and suspicious medicines, intensifying action against illegal pharmaceutical networks operating across the state.

Raids Target Fake And Substandard Medicines

Acting on intelligence inputs and ongoing surveillance, FDCA teams carried out raids at multiple locations and seized stocks of medicines suspected to be counterfeit, substandard or being sold in violation of regulatory norms.

Officials said the action forms part of a wider campaign against the manufacture, storage and distribution of fake medicines that pose serious risks to public health.

The seized stock has been sent for laboratory examination to determine whether the medicines meet prescribed quality standards and whether they contain the ingredients mentioned on their labels.

Investigation Focuses On Supply Network

Authorities are examining the source of the seized medicines and tracing the supply chain behind the suspected racket.

Investigators are also verifying purchase records, invoices, licences and distribution channels to identify those involved in the alleged illegal trade.

Officials said action under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act and other applicable laws will follow if the medicines are found to be counterfeit or not of standard quality.

Health Department Warns Against Illegal Drug Trade

The crackdown comes amid growing concern over the circulation of fake and unregulated medicines in the market.

The state government has repeatedly stated that it follows a zero-tolerance policy towards the manufacture and sale of counterfeit medicines and drugs that can endanger patients.

Health authorities have urged consumers to purchase medicines only from licensed pharmacies and to report any suspicious products or irregularities to the FDCA.

More Inspections Planned Across Gujarat

FDCA officials indicated that inspections and enforcement drives will continue across Gujarat in the coming weeks.

The department said its focus remains on ensuring that medicines sold to the public are safe, effective and manufactured in accordance with regulatory standards, while action against offenders will be intensified wherever violations are detected.
